Keith was a bard who led a band in England during the late 9th century, using an instrument made of bladder and bone.
Biography
In the 870s, Keith and his band were based in the ruins of an old tower in Essexe, conjuring numerous melodies and musicals which attracted and gained them an audience. However, this also attracted a bishop who self-claimed himself as the protector of the ruins, and led to an exchange of arguments between the bishop and Keith. A while later, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir visited the ruins and caught sight of the argument. After Eivor assisted Keith in driving the bishop away in a brawl, Keith thanked her and, inspired by her fight, wrote a song that he dubbed as "Smack my Bishop".[1]
Behind the scenes
Keith's name and appearance, as well as the memory are references to the Essex band The Prodigy and its former singer, Keith Flint.[2] The song sung after the memory's completion "Smack my Bishop", is a reference to the band's song "Smack My Bitch Up". If a torch is pulled in front of Keith, he will reference another Prodigy song, "You are the Firestarter!"
