Kata (型 or 形, meaning "form")[1] are chains of practiced martial art movements meant to help practitioners visualize a combat scenario while training, as well as help build muscle memory.[2]
Yasuke, a member of the Kakushiba ikki active in late Sengoku period Japan, learned kata from watching his own martial arts teacher, Kamiizumi Nobutsuna,[3] and would later pass on his teachings to Fujibayashi Naoe and Junjiro.[4] During his travels while tracking down the Shinbakufu, Yasuke would also periodically stop and practice kata at many locations, whenever he was able to find someone willing to teach new forms.[5]
