The Karystos Dock (Ancient Greek: Κάρυστος) was a polis located on the western shore of the Greek island of Euboea. In classical antiquity, it was located in the Mount Ochi region of Abantis Islands.
The city served as an important meeting point of shipping routes linking the Euripos Strait and the Aegean archipelago. During the Greco-Persian Wars, the city-state joined the Achaemenid Empire against the Greek alliance.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War the city and its dock was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2] While walking the streets, Kassandra heard wails coming from a house, and investigated. She discovered a man amidst the robbed remains of his residence. The man cared for naught else but an heirloom vase. Kassandra agreed to look for it, discovering the vase in the hands of bandits in an abandoned Copper Mine and returned the vase to the man.[3]
