The Mohawks were a tribe of Native American indians found in upstate New York.

During the American Revolutionary War, the Mohawks sided with the British and helped fight the the Americans. After the war most of the tribes migrated up into Canada.

Trivia

The name Mohawk -- meaning "man-eaters" -- was given to them by their rival tribe, the Algonkians. It is not know if they actually were a cannibal culture or if the name refered to their alleged ferocity in battle. They Mohwaks used another name among themselves -- Kanienkehaka, meaning "people of the flint".
