The Mohawks (pronounced Mo-hawk) are a tribe found in upstate [[New York]]. They called themselves Kanienkehaka ("people of the flint"). The name Mohawk was a name their enemies, the Algonkian called them, meaning "man-eaters", although it is unknown if this name was literal, an insult or a figure of speech to show that the Mohawks where fierce in battle.
