The Kanawha River is a 156-km long tributary of the Ohio River, located in West Virginia, United States.[1]
History
In 1770, George Washington traveled with some Continental Army soldiers to the Kanawha valley to reclaim the land promised to them[2] by Governor Robert Dinwiddie in 1754[3] on behalf of the British Empire. There, they met a sachem who prophesized Washington would become "the leader of the nations", having taken as a sign Washington being shot at but never harmed during the Battle of the Monongahela 15 years prior.[2]
