A portrait of John Singleton Copley by Gilbert Stuart

John Singleton Copley (1738 – 9 September 1815) was an American painter. He is famous for his portrait paintings of prominent figures of New England, such as Thomas Gage, John Hancock and Samuel Adams.

During the American Revolutionary War, a copy of a portrait of Copley by Gilbert Stuart hung in the manor of the Davenport Homestead.
