John Edgar Hoover (1 January 1895 – 2 May 1972) was the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States. He was appointed as the Director of the Bureau of Investigation in 1924, and took an important role in the founding of the FBI in 1935, to which Hoover remained the FBI's director until his death in 1972.
By 1926, members of the American Assassin Brotherhood infiltrated Hoover's Bureau of Investigation to use its network of information to further their Order's goals, while keeping their activities secret to Hoover.
