Jarjaraya was a town in Iraq, located by the Tigris river southeast of Baghdad. During the 9th century, the town was home to many Zanj slaves who had been freed for their fates by the rebels led by Ali ibn Muhammad. In addition to the Zanj slaves, the town was home to a number of merchants who came to Baghdad to business but struggled to make ends meet.[1]
