Jacobites were members of a political faction advocating the restoration of the Catholic House of Stuart to the British throne after the Glorious Revolution.[1]

When the pro Catholic James II of England chose exile after the 1688 Glorious Revolution, the Parliament of England ruled he had "abandoned" the English throne, which was given to his Protestant daughter Mary II of England, and her husband William III.[2] The followers of the exiled king were known as Jacobites.[1]

After the War of Spanish Succession and the accession of the throne by the Hanoverian House in 1714, the Jacobites began to revolt in Great Britain.[3] The allegiance of the officials was questioned, like for the governor of Bahamas Woodes Rogers who was suspected to have ties with the Jacobites while in fact he was a member of the West Indies Rite of the Templar Order.[4] His Grand Master Laureano de Torres y Ayala tasked him to collect in Isu vials the blood of the Parliament members and ministers, covering it as a pledge of fealty to the king against the Jacobites.[3]
