Hares are small, herbivorous animals belonging to the Lepus genus. Hare species are native to Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, and the Japanese archipelago.
History
During the Renaissance, the foot of a rabbit was considered to be a symbol of good luck.[1]
Colonial Templar Shay Cormac fashioned a number of items from pelts obtained from hares and arctic hares, including a pouch for his darts.[2]
During the American Revolution, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton could hunt hares in the Frontier, and sell their furs, meat, and feet for money at general stores.[3]
