Ali Bey Al-Kabir (1728 – 1773) was the self-proclaimed Mamluk leader of Egypt from 1768 to 1769, 1772 or 1773.
After deposing the Ottoman governor of Egypt, Ali Bey named himself the governor of the region, and effectively declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire. He was soon overthrown by Ottoman loyalists however, tipping the scales back in the Ottomans' favor. [citation needed]
