The Gracechurch Street brothel was one of Olwyn Owers' brothels located in City of London, London, during the Victorian era.[1]
History
Sometime before 1888, a woman born with the name Mary Williams worked in the Gracechurch Street Brothel. One of her clients, a wealthy and well-connected solicitor Thomas Owers, was smitten with her, and they married, Mary taking on the name Olwyn Owers, or 'Lady O'. By 1888, Lady Owers had gained the ownership of the Gracechurch Street brothel, and it was the most successful of her establishments. She employed thugs to keep her 'beauties' compliant and willing to spy on their wealthy clients. In November 1888, the Assassin Evie Frye attacked the brothel and dealt with the thugs within, freeing the women and earning their, as well as Nellie's, gratitude.[1]
