The Gortyn Code was a piece of legislation inscribed on a stele in the city-state of Gortyn in Messara, Greece.
Inscribed in the 5th century BCE, the legislation regulated Gortynian civil life, which included the management of family affairs affecting inheritance, divorce, adoption and widowhood.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War the stele was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
