A gold bomb is a form of diversionary explosive that upon detonation covers the ground in a multitude of pyrite coins easily mistaken for gold.
History[edit | edit source]
In the early 1500s, the Italian Assassins' Mentor Ezio Auditore learned how to craft and use gold bombs, as they could be made with any shell or gunpowder type combined with pyrite coins. The Ottoman Assassins had found them to be highly effective in crowd control, using it to attract mobs of opportunistic civilians into the path between the Assassins and any nearby guards. These citizens reacted the same way as if Ezio had tossed real currency to the ground, unquestioningly believing they had found pure gold, and would become aggressive towards any approaching guards who attempted to break up the crowds, thus distracting the troops' attention from the Assassins' movements into or out of a location.[1]
