A glitch during a cutscene.

During some parts of Assassin's Creed, the player will experience intentional glitches, placed there by the developers. These glitches signify opportunities for the player to change the camera view, among other purposes.

Cutscenes

During cutscenes, the representations of nucleotides (DNA components) will occasionally flash across the screen. Whenever this occurs, the player can press any button, and the camera view will shift from behind Altaïr to a position looking directly at the subjects of the cutscene. Continuously clicking a button during the scene will allow the player to cycle through all the available camera views.

The glitches that occur during the cutscenes in which Altaïr speaks to dying assassination targets are exceptional cases, wherein pressing any button will change the conditions of the scene, and not simply the camera angle. If the player does not press a button, the dying target speaks while being held in Altaïr's hands; whereas if the player does, the camera focuses only on the target, he appearing uninjured and standing on his own as he speaks.

Chase scenes

In addition, when Altaïr is being chased by guards, similar glitches may occur. If the player presses a certain button (L2 on PS3, or RB on Xbox 360, Left Shift on the PC if the key has not been remapped) while these glitches occur, the camera moves into a chase position. The camera will move back behind the pursuing guards, allowing the player to view both Altaïr and the guards pursuing him, and in essence viewing the entire "chase."

Assassin's Creed II

Most cutscenes in Assassin's Creed II do not allow the player to move Ezio Auditore around freely, this is due to the camera already being cinematically primed similar to the cinematics of Assassin's Creed when a glitch is 'activated'.

Assassin's Creed II: Discovery

In some areas in Assassin's Creed II: Discovery Glitches may flash across the screen. Shaking the iPod in these will make an extra area appear, in which bonus artwork can be found.
