Captain Garza (died 1499) was a Spanish Templar who worked with the Inquisition to hunt down Assassin sympathizers in Granada shortly after its conquest by Spain. He played a role in that conflict by orchestrating the murder of Sultan Muhammad XII's advisor by his own son, the Assassin Ubayd Alayza.

An uneasy partnership with Ubayd persisted until 1499, when he was assassinated by Ubayd's sister Najma, who had remained loyal to the Assassins.

Biography

In 1492, during the final stages of the Granada War, Garza convinced the Granadian Assassin Ubayd Alayza to defect to the Templars and murder his own father, an advisor to Sultan Muhammad XII.[2] Almost immediately after Granada was annexed into Spain, the Spanish Inquisition began a systematic purge of heretics and suspected enemies in the city.[3] By 1499, Garza was the Templar overseeing this operation, and he specifically targeted Assassin supporters among the civilian population.[4]

To fight back, the Spanish Assassins planned to rescue captured supporters and assassinate Ubayd. They joined efforts with Ubayd's Granadian Assassin sister, Najma. After Ubayd slipped from their hands, they tracked down Garza to his villa in the hopes of interrogating him for Ubayd's location, but Garza also managed to escape to the Alhambra.[5]

At the Alhambra, Garza and Ubayd had a heated argument. Frustrated with the recent failures, Ubayd became disenchanted with the Templars as well, coming to feel that their New World Order had not been worth his patricide and their chaotic methods. With tempers running high, Garza suddenly drew a dagger and stabbed Ubayd three times in retaliation before leaving him to bleed to death.[6]

The Templar fled through the streets of Granada, with three Spanish Assassins and Najma hot on his heels. The Assassins made their way through the towers and along the walls, eventually cornering Garza on the edge of a rampart. After a few bouts against the Assassins, Garza was slain by Najma from behind with her Hidden Blade.[1]
