Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (Frederick Augustus; 1763 – 1827) was the second son of George III of the United Kingdom and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
In 1787, Frederick inherited the Dover House from Sarah Lethieullier, the widow of the late politician Matthew Fetherstonhaugh who died in 1774. Under Frederick's ownership, the mansion was renovated to include its signature portico and circular hall. Later in 1792, he traded the home for Lord Melbourne's home in Piccadilly.[1]
