Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric, is a type of mushroom of the genus Amanita, native to the temperate and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

During the 9th century, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir often encountered the mushrooms throughout her travels across England. Inducing the mushroom would induce hallucinations which last a short period of time.[1]
