Elizabeth was a 1st century BCE woman who, with her husband Zechariah, was the mother of John the Baptist. She was later venerated as the saint of pregnant women in most Christian denominations and Islam. While six months pregnant with her son, Elizabeth's relative Mary visited her while she herself was still pregnant with Jesus of Nazareth.[1] Their meeting was then recorded in the Gospel of Luke, and a 15th century church was rededicated to them in the form of the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Visitazione in Venice, Italy.[2]
