Eadgils was a semi-legendary Swedish king from the 6th century who was said to have stopped his pursuit of the Danish king Hrólfr Kraki after the latter scattered gold across the Fyrisvellir as a distraction.

Legacy

In 985, in the lead-up to the Battle of Fýrisvellir, Östen Jorundsson and Alferth were approached at their campfire by Skarpe, who had been rummaging in the Fyrisvellir mud for coins, which led Alferth to dismiss him as a fool. Skarpe, however, was adamant that King Eadgils could not have gotten every piece of gold that Hrólfr had thrown. Östen stepped in before their infighting could escalate.[1]
