Akhenaten (unknown – 1336/1334 BCE), also known as Amenhotep IV, was a pharaoh of Egypt during the Armarna Period.

During his reign, Akhenaten introduced monotheism, the belief in which Egyptians were only allowed to worship one god, Aten. As a result, many Egyptians were forced to celebrate their gods in secret.
