The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic mosque and major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. It was built between 689 and 691 CE atop of the Temple Mount, and the landmark was believed to be built on the farthest point on Earth that Islam's founder, Muhammad, came to during the Night Journey.
As one of the most recognized and important Islamic shrines in the city, the site of the Temple Mount is coveted by the three religions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
