The de la Serre estate was the Paris residence of the de la Serre family, located in northern Le Marais.

History

On 14 July 1789, after joining the people storming the Bastille, Élise de la Serre, desperate to reach the estate in time, ran amongst the chaos and found her house ransacked by looters. She told the remaining servants and butlers to go someplace safe while she checked her important belongings. Élise found two men named Hook and Harvey, who were hired by the British Templar Carroll family to eliminate her, but managed to kill them with a distraction from the former British Assasssin Bernard Ruddock. Ruddock then told Élise that he had been hired to kill her and her mother Julie during her childhood by the Roi des Thunes, before taking his leave.[1]

Élise pointing her pistol at Arno

Élise spent the following days drunk and anxious until 25 July, when Arno Dorian arrived at her door, having escaped the Bastille. Contrary to the relief he had expected from her at having survived the revolutionaries' fervor against the nobility, he was instead greeted with accusations of involvement in the murder of her father François de la Serre. Realizing that his negligence had inadvertently caused François' death, Arno left the mansion.[2]

On 1 April 1791, after successfully infiltrating the hotel where the Jacobin Club organized a meeting, Arno eavesdropped on a secret meeting where extremist members of the Parisian Templars plotted to eliminate Élise.[3] Arno subsequently rushed to the de la Serre estate and broke down the door, only to remember that Élise had arranged a meeting with Chrétien Lafrenière at the Hôtel Voysin, and ran to intercept the assassination plot.[4]
