There are virtually no details of Samuel Smith's life. We suspect that he was born in Virginia and showed some skills as a sailor. He was a treasurer for one of Lawrence Washington's businesses, and by extension, the Templar Order. After Washington's death, he answered to James Wardrop.
(I wonder if this is why he was hired? No one really knew him and no one would really miss him. He was completely expendable. -V.)
