The greatest of the Three Sisters, the River Berbha pours forth from Sliabh Bladhma all the wat to Loch Dá Chaoch. Its name is derived from an old Celtic legend, wherein the hero, Dian Cecht, slew three infernal serpents nesting in the heart of a cursed child and threw their corpses into the river, bringing it to a boil.
