During the 15th century, Italy was considered the birthplace of Renaissance; a cultural movement which soon spread all over Europe. It was not considered to be a unified given the fact that it was divided into numerous city-states; that each aimed to rule the other lands.

The Republic of Firenze, the Republic of Venice and the Papal States were the primary city-states. During the Renaissance, both the Assassin Order and the Templar Order had been active in Italy's politics and government.
