The Isle of Skye was primarily inhabited by the Picts prior to Norse rule, though few settled on the island at this time. It was a place of passage for many travellers.
The island's striking landscape inspired all sorts of mythical tales about fairy inhabitants, from the Old Man of Storr and one terrible plague of nightmares. Most of which were simply stories for children, of course...
