Poetess, courtesan, singer and composer, Arib Al-Ma'muniyya was born into slavery but rose to become the most prominent artist of the court. Time passed and several Caliphs came and went, yet Arib's celebrity endured. Quick-witted and brazen in life as in art, Arib's boldness won her legions of admirers—and more than a few enemies.
