Damokles was a 4th century BCE courtier. He was best known for the story of the Sword of Damokles,[1] about a man wished for ultimate fortune and power, only to learn that such status came with proportionate responsibility and risks.[2]
Behind the scenes
As the Peloponnesian War preceded the time of Damokles by almost a century, it's likely the blade was actually known by another name at the time.
