The Cypriot Gabbro Head was a staff that originated from Cyprus and was capped with a studded ball supposedly made from gabbro, a type of igneous rock. The rough and solid head could be used to inflict injury, allowing the staff to be adapted as a weapon. Although plain, staves of this design were also wielded by the pharaohs of the Ptolemaic dynasty as scepters and maces, especially given that they hailed from Cyprus. In this capacity, a Cypriot Gabbro Head was known as a Pharaoh's Mace.
