Captain Aetes was a Greek soldier stationed in Dionysias Wharf, Faiyum, Egypt.
Aetes had a paternalistic view of his duty, claiming it was for the security of both Greece and Egypt, saying that the Egyptians, if left to themselves, "would never know true civilization". He commanded his men to "protect and educate them" by doing what he seemed as necessary despite Egyptian resistance.[1]
