The Aekuni Shrine Town, or simply Iga,[1] is a former town and later city in present-day Mie Prefecture.[2] The town formerly served as the heart of Iga Province and was known for the Aekuni Shrine.[1]
History
In the 16th century, the Iga ikki would use the town as the place where they would organize an assembly to renew their vows to their league.[3] The town also saw battle during the Tenshō Iga War when Oda Nobunaga's army attacked it on 30 September 1581.[4]
