The Aegean Prince was a bronze shield which belonged to a prince from Aegea.
Description
The metalwork design of the Aegean Prince was intricate, resulting in a construction that was superior to that of average contemporary shields. It was especially suited to blocking projectiles while its blood-red coloration inspired ferocity. By 48 BCE, the shield had evidently been worn down from its years in combat, with its circular shape slightly distorted, yet it was no less sturdy.[1]
History
Once the personal shield of a prince from Aegea, hence its name, the Aegean Prince had made its way to Egypt by 48 BCE during the reign of the Ptolemy XIII of the Ptolemaic dynasty. Eventually, it ended up in the hands of the Medjay Bayek of Siwa.[1]
