The Santa Maria della Visitazione (English: Saint Mary of the Visitation), is a church in Venice's southern Dorsoduro district.
History
The church was founded in the 15th century and was dedicated to Jerome, the patron saint of librarians and encyclopedia writers, though it was rededicated to commemorate when Jesus of Nazareth's mother Mary visited her relative Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, while they both were still pregnant.[1]
At some point, the Roman Hidden One Leonius' remains were transported to a hidden tomb underneath the church. Centuries later, the Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore discovered the tomb, retrieved Leonius' Assassin seal inside, and returned it to the Sanctuary under Monteriggioni's Villa Auditore; combined with the other five seals, this would later grant Ezio the Armor of Altaïr.[2]
