Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was the queen consort of the British king George III. She was the mother of George IV, William IV, and Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, among others.
In 1761, King George III purchased the private residence built by the Duke of Buckingham as a gift for Charlotte. Their sons, George IV and William IV, would had the house converted into Buckingham Palace.[1]
