The DLC offers several new additions to the game, including ten new missions, a new maneuver (the Sprint Jump) which allows Ezio to jump twice as far as normal, but only in the southern part of the city of Florence, and access to the three Templar Lairs (if the 'Bonfire of the Vanities and Secret Locations DLC' is bought, which were previously Limited Edition exclusives); the Palazzo Medici, Santa Maria dei Frari and Arsenal Shipyard.

The first mission is when Ezio meets Niccolo Machiavelli in the Oltrarno District in Florence. Over the next 9 missions. Ezio needs to assassinate Savonarola's lieutenants to free the people. In some of the missions you need to assassinate the target without being seen, and the best way to do this is by using the hidden gun to attract the targets attention. Once Ezio had killed all of his lieutenants, Ezio needed to take the Apple from Savonarola. Using a throwing knife, Ezio was able to knock the Apple from the monk's hands, and retrieve it from one of Rodrigo Borgia's guards. In the last mission of the sequence, Ezio sees Savonarola being burned at the stake. Ezio tells the citizens that no-one deserves to die in such a painful way, and he assassinates him before he could suffer.

Bonfire of the Vanities is the latter of two downloadable contents announced by Ubisoft, and was released on February 18, 2010. The DLC with the 3 Templar locations will cost 560 MS/€6.99 and the DLC without will cost 320 MS/€3.99.

Plot

The DLC will open up the southern quarter of Florence previously sealed off and revolves around the monk Savonarola, who is controlling the city in absence of the Medici. Using the Piece of Eden; which he stole from a critically wounded Ezio Auditore after his confrontation with Checco Orsi, Savonarola was able to control the city’s nine most influential citizens, and use them for his own means.

The first mission is when Ezio meets Niccolò Machiavelli in the Oltrarno District in Florence.

Trivia

 • The conversations Ezio hears while entering Florence refer to Piero de' Medici, the son of Lorenzo de' Medici.
 • If the player returns to the Palazzo Auditore during the Bonfire of the Vanities, Ezio will see a vision reliving an old memory of his family.
 • The Bonfire of the Vanities also brings a new feature to the game, the Sprint Jump, where Ezio runs and jumps off of a springy flag-pole, allowing him to jump further. This feature is only available in the Oltrarno district of Florence, however.
 • Even after the player has finished this memory sequence, there will still be civillians burning books.
