Bonfire of the Vanities is the latter of two downloadable contents announced by Ubisoft, and was released on February 18, 2010. The DLC with the 3 Templar locations will cost 560 MS/€6.99 and the DLC without will cost 320 MS/€3.99.
Plot
The DLC will open up the southern quarter of Florence previously sealed off and revolves around the monk Savonarola, who is controlling the city in absence of the Medici. Using the Piece of Eden; which he stole from a critically wounded Ezio Auditore after his confrontation with Checco Orsi, Savonarola was able to control the city’s nine most influential citizens, and use them for his own means.
The DLC offers several new additions to the game, including ten new missions, a new maneuver (the Sprint Jump) which allows Ezio to jump twice as far as normal but only in the southern part of the city of Florence and access to the three Templar Lairs (previously Limited Edition exclusives); the Palazzo Medici, Santa Maria dei Frari and Arsenal Shipyard.
The first mission is when you have to go and meet Niccolo Machiaveli in the Southern District in Florence. Over the next 9 missions you need to assassinate Savonarola's lieutenants to free the people. In some of the missions you need to assassinate the without being seen and the best way to do this is by using the hidden gun to attract the targets attention. Once you have killed all of his lieutenants you need to take the Apple of Eden from Savonarola. You do this you use your throwing knife to knock it out of his hand and retrieve it from one of The Spaniard's guards. In the last mission of the sequence you see Savonarola being burned at the stake and Ezio decides no-one should die in such pain, so he assassinates him before he burns.
Trivia
- The voices Ezio hears while entering Florence refer to Piero de' Medici, the son of Lorenzo de' Medici.
- If the player returns to the Palazzo Auditore during Bonfire of the Vanities and uses Eagle Vision you can experience Ezio reliving an old memory of his family.
- Bonfire of the Vanities also brings a new feature to the game, the Spring Jump, where Ezio runs and jumps of a springy flag-pole, allowing Ezio to jump further, although this feature is only available in the Oltrarno district of Florence.
- Even after the player has finished this memory sequence, there will still be civillians burning books.
