The 'isle'

The Boar Fighting Club was an almost-island-like area within the Limnai Marsh region of Lakonia, Greece.

The place possessed a natural arena, as well as a related cave, which were used by young Spartans to enact ritual battles with wild boars. Before these battles, they sacrificed a black puppy to the war-god Enyalios.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra found the place, and slew the large boar and its companions that had made the place their home.[1]
