Benedicto (died 1492) was the Mentor of the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins during the Reconquista.
Biography
Around the time of the Granada War, Benedicto took steps to protect the young Prince Ahmed, son of his ally Sultan Muhammad XII of Granada, having the boy hidden in a village by another friend of the Brotherhood, Diego.[1]
Benedicto later took Aguilar de Nerha under his wing after the boy's Assassin parents were burned at the stake by the Inquisition and its Templar leader, Tomás de Torquemada. Training the younger man and teaching him the Creed, Benedicto later presided over Aguilar's formal induction into the Brotherhood in 1492.[2]
That same year, Benedicto and his Assassins failed to prevent the capture of Ahmed by the Templars, who wanted to use him as a bargaining chip to obtain the Apple of Eden entrusted to his father by the Assassins. Captured alongside two of his disciples, Aguilar and María, Benedicto was eventually brought to Seville, where he was branded a heretic by Torquemada before being burned at the stake.[2]
