Viana is a small town and region located in Navarre, northern Spain. It was the site of Cesare Borgia's demise, who was killed during the Siege of Viana and was subsequently buried there.
History
In 1507, King John III of Navarre ordered his brother-in-law, Cesare Borgia, who had just escaped from prison, to lead his 10,000 men to Viana, in order to retake the Viana Castle from Louis de Beaumont, the Count of Lerin.[1]
Upon learning about Cesare's location from the Apple of Eden, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Mentor of the Italian Assassins, traveled to Viana to assassinate the Templar Grand Master. In 1507, Ezio and Cesare finally confronted each other in the town for their last battle, culminating in the latter's death.[2]
Ezio was secretly accompanied by an Assassin team comprising Alessandra d'Avanzago, Bastiano da Mezzo, Dariâ, and Claudio, who were tasked with distracting the Templars during the siege to allow their Mentor to confront Cesare. Although the Assassins were discovered and imprisoned in the Viana Castle by the guards, they soon escaped with the help of several apprentices.[3] They then killed the guards in their sleep, sabotaged Cesare's pistol,[4] and robbed the castle's treasury to deprive the Templars of resources.[5]
Trivia
- Like Arsuf in Assassin's Creed, Rome in Assassin's Creed II, and Masyaf in Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Ezio could not return to Viana through methods of travel after the completion of its memory. However, he was able to return to the location during a memory replay.
