The Basilica di Santa Croce (Basilica of the Holy Cross) is the principal Franciscan church in Florence and the largest Franciscan church in the world. Construction on the church started in 1294 when the construction site was outside the city walls and the construction was finished in 1442. In Assassin's Creed II, Uberto Alberti is assassinated in the courtyard by Ezio Auditore while unveiling Verocchio's newest works. It is located in the east of the city, near the city walls.
It is also the final resting place of Niccolò Machiavelli who died in 1527.
