The Basilica Menor de San Francisco de Asis is a church in Havana, Cuba. Built sometime in the 1580s by the Franciscan order, the basilica was a dominating presence on the nearby plaza.
The original church had a simpler design, with the baroque features having been added during the early 18th century. It also boasted a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, which stood atop its belltower, though a cyclone damaged the sculpture in 1846.
Nowadays, the church is used as a concert hall due to its excellent acoustics.
Trivia
- Although it would have existed at the time, the statue of St. Francis of Assisi was not included in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's rendition of the landmark.
