Barong is a lion god in Indonesian mythology, often associated with being the king of the spirits and the leader of the hosts of good. His enemy is Rangda the demon queen.
In February 1725, after seeing Edward Kenway decimate their fellow pirates, many of Rupiya's crew fearfully exclaimed that Kenway was Barong incarnate.[1]
