Barnabas was the Cypriot Resistance leader in Kyrenia. He actively supported the Assassin Order in acting against the Templars, and was executed for his efforts. Barnabas was well known by Alexander of Limassol, and each exchanged letters until the time of his death.
Death
Barnabas was assassinated shortly before Altaïr arrived in Kyrenia, by a Templar Agent, who then impersonated him and tricked the Mentor of the Levantine Assassins, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad into killing Jonas, a respected member of the resistance and a merchant. Barnabas' head was decapitated, and later put in a burlap sack and delivered to Alexander, the resistance leader of Limassol by Shalim, on the orders of the Templar Grand Master Armand Bouchart.
Altaïr had already pieced together the fact that the man he encountered was not the real Barnabas. When he inspected the head, he revealed to Alexander the truth about the Templar Agent's plan to trick them.
