Pierce <> stab. To pierce with a scythe, you'd need to get in an ideal hit. But you can't stab with it. 

With blades, if it's not straight, it's curved. Scythes are curved; sickles even more so.

The idea mentioned of... small scythes... Take the blade, attach it to a different handle for ease of use, you get a dagger or a knife. If it has tapered enough tip, it's actually made to pierce armour.
