Asterion's Spring was a spring on top of a mountain south of Lato in the Minotaur Hills of the 5th century BCE Pephka, Greece.
Near Fort Lato and south of Lato, the spring was marked with a giant statue featuring the Minotaur. The spring and the statue served as a shrine, as an altar was raised there, with people bringing offerings and praying on an everyday basis.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the place.[1]
Behind the scenes
The name of Asterion's Spring, a location in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is a reference to Asterion II, king of Krete, better known as the Minotaur.
