"He wasn't naive, he was straight forward."
Honestly, I would love to believe that, but when Connor returns to his village after the American Revolution ends and wonders why everything's not hunky-dory, even to Juno, then there's nothing really to describe him but naive.
Connor never thought anything through, he just acted on his two almost programmed objectives: "Kill Templars" and "Do the revolutionaries' bidding".
