Abreas (died c. 427 BCE) was a Greek man who lived during the 5th century BCE. Along his brother Timon, they lived in Orchomenos in Boeotia, Greece.
Biography
Abreas and Timon were very close, and they did a lot of things together. At some point when they were younger, Timon made a necklace to Abreas so that Abreas would never be alone while out hunting or fighting. The two also befriended Astra and Deianeira, often participating in sparring session with them.[1]
Later in their adult years, Deianeira became one of the Champions of Boeotia, and allied with Athens' Delian League like the rest of the champions. As Abreas spoke against the alliance and accused the champions of betraying Boeotia, he was killed by Deianeira and Astra as they lured him to their old sparring grounds. Abreas' necklace was subsequently taken by Deianeira, who gifted it to Astra.[1]
Abreas' body was later found by his brother Timon, who held a funeral and played his lyre near the port of Orchomenos. During her time in Orchomenos, the Spartan misthios Kassandra heard Timon playing, and learned about the past he shared with Deianeira. Kassandra agreed to hunt down and kill Astra as revenge for Abreas' death, and retrieve the necklace.[1]
