Ah, greetings people and here we are at the end of another year. This is the time where we should be with our loved ones and trying to get drunk off the luxurious product known as eggnog. Who exactly is Desmond Miles? He's the main protagonist to the series but there's still so much we don't know about him. What exactly makes him special though? The connection to Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze whom lead him to where he is in Assassin's Creed 3. But let's start from the beginning...

Desmond escaped an anonymous place referred to as The Farm when he was younger; the Farm was an Assassin operated stronghold which was off the grid. One he left, his journey took him to New York City where he became a bartender. During September of 2012, a highly-funded Templar company by the name of Abstergo Industries had kidnapped Desmond. This had started his journey to becoming true Assassin and realizing that the people at the farm, family and friends, had been trying to help him and were not crazy in the least.

He awoke to the memory of his ancestor, Altair Ibn-La'Ahad, whose memory was de-stabilizing quickly. He finally exited the trance and discovered two new faces; Warren Vidic and Lucy Stillman. He was forced to remain in a machine called the Animus; though this model was referred to as the 1.28 model. Desmond continued to learn about his ancestor Altair and the Assassins, gradually leaving and heading to sleep after talking with Lucy. He soon found out that Lucy is apart of the Assassin Order like he was meant to be. Desmond relived the last sequence of Altair's memory which would soon lead to an object referred as the Piece of Eden. An ability had been unlocked once the people at Abstergo Industries had left the area, Desmond discovered he had unlocked a secret talent referred to as Eagle Vision. Eagle Vision is a new sense which would allow whomever possesses it to depict friend, foe, civilian and target.

Returning to Abstergo, Lucy discovered Desmond staring blankly at a wall but what was truly in his sight was the symbols drawn with blood belonging to Subject 16. Escaping Abstergo and making his way to a new hideout, he had met up with a new team of Assassins; Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane. But time was short and Desmond needed the training required to take down the tyranny of the Templar order and so, he fitted decades of training into the span of a few days while reliving Ezio Auditore's life. The long-range of time started to affect Desmond, suffering from an Animus-caused condition known as the Bleeding Effect (Something of which will be explained later throughout the blog).

The Assassins were forced to retreat the hideout once unveiling what will happen on the date of the Abstergo satellite launch. Desmond soon found himself in Monteriggioni where he continued to relive Ezio's memories; eventually discovering the location of the Colosseum Vault which held the Apple. The group went there and entered the Vault, Desmond began to hear the voice of Juno, one of Those Who Came Before; an ancient race who had been responsible created the humans. Eventually seizing the Apple, Desmond was force to lay his Hidden Blade into the stomach of Lucy, killing her and forcing Desmond into a comatose state.

Desmond's body was soon found by William Miles and an unknown acquaintance and they put him in the animus where he awoke on a deserted island within the Animus. The animus had entered a safe-guarded state referred to as the Black Room, Desmond came into contact with Clay Kaczmarek, also known as Subject 16. Desmond relived the last remaining portions of Ezio's memories and resumed his training in the Animus.

Demond was soon pulled out of the Animus where the island was crumbling to bits and pieces, Clay gripped onto Desmond and threw him back into the memory, saving Desmond but what happened to Clay is unknown. Ezio found his way to Masyaf and aided Desmond in entering a state referred to as a Synch Nexus. This state gave Desmond answers from Jupiter, Juno and Minerva whom showed Desmond the First Catastrophe which occurred to the First Civilization. This pointed to the location of the Grand Temple; a place which would help Desmond prevent the catastrophe.
Conclusion
Desmond awoke from the Animus; with the apple in his hand and William (His father) by his side. The group knew where to go and this event follows through into the next game.

Question 9 - Knowing the Animus is an Animust!
Animus... It's an Animus.

The Animus is what gives a person to delve into the genetic memory of their ancestors. But what exactly are "genetic memories"? Genetic memory is a variety of sequences which is passed down through the DNA of an individual's ancestry. Capitalizing on this, Abstergo developed the Animus though after decades of use, this machine had still not been perfected. Genetic memories could be accessed willingly or unwilling, if the subject was not willing to co-operate; said subject could be induced into a comatose state and memories extracted from their mind.

The genetic memory of one ancestor would be unable to be accessed since his memories passed onto the next ancestor via DNA. Proof of this is when Desmond had been experiencing a case of the bleeding effect (which we'll begin to go into detail in a minute), Desmond found himself as Altair once more and had found himself conceiving a child with Maria Thorpe which resulted in their second son; Sef Ibn-La'Ahad. Desmond's vision shifted from Altair to the child.

The Bleeding Effect is a side-effect caused by prolonged exposure to the Animus. This condition blends the real-time and genetic memories of the user, transferring thoughts, skills and experiences from the ancestor to the descendant.

Question 8 - Good/Bad Guys?
The following was an extract from Master Sima Yi's original Good and Evil blog.Just note that this blog is outdated and the original Author has plans to write a newer, longer and more detailed one filled with the information from Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed III: Liberation.

Despite Assassin's Creed: Revelations' quite noticeable attempt to make the fans realize that the Templars aren't "evil" as the majority thinks, I still see people on here who see the Templars as utterly villainous. This is, however, not the case. With this blog, I would like to do my best to make an attempt at clarifying this as detailed as possible.

In Assassin's Creed, the player was confronted with the noble yet cruel ideals and goals of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's targets, making Altaïr conflicted about whether or not his actions were the right ones. It was clear that the Templars also wanted peace and stability, but their methods were more cruel and harsh than the Assassins'.

However, Assassin's Creed II completely changed the image of the Templars, turning them into greedy and power-hungry villains. Using the power of the Catholic Church to back them, Rodrigo Borgia became Pope Alexander VI in 1492, using Christianity's influence for his own personal gain. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood continued this, with Rodrigo's son Cesare Borgia being a delusional tyrant who believed that Italy and the rest of the world was his birthright. We spent a lot of time playing as Ezio Auditore da Firenze in his quest for revenge and his strong desire to take down the Borgia family, making us most familiar with these baddie Templars.

Due to Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's larger popularity than the first game, fans did not pay much attention to the somewhat complicated storyline of Assassin's Creed and quickly and eagerly made the division between good and right: Assassins were the heroes, and Templars were the bad guys. Assassin's Creed: Revelations did its job at pointing out the contrary, but to quote Ahmet himself: "People desire the truth, yes, but even when they have it they refuse to look."

Number 7 - What is Canon?
Canon is what can be regarded as properly "official" to the series' storyline, if anything contradicts the story then it can be classified as "Non-Canon." In the Assassin's Creed universe, the following things have been known to show contradictions to the storyline:

*Stella Crow
*Tom
*Jonathan Hawk
*Herman Geier

The connection these characters share is that they're from the Assassin's Creed (French comic). Another thing that broke some forms of canon was the first edition of the Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia which contradicted canon. A list of the contradictions can be found right here!
