The one big counterpoint and thematic conflict is the Krypteia's role in upholding a system of slavery by terrorizing and culling the helot population, which is attested both by the game and by some historical sources. Does anyone have information on whether the role of the Krypteia changed during development, or perhaps whether anything in the game files sheds more light on this?

:Even if krypteia were called "hidden ones", I very highly doubt they would be Assassins. You already stated the key point against this, that they were used to uphold a nation's systemic slavery, something that is entirely anathema to the Assassins' core belief in freedom for all humanity regardless of nationality or upbringing. – [[User:Darman36|Darman]] ([[User talk:Darman36|talk]]) 07:10, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

proto-Assassin connections?

The game seems to hint at some sort of abstract connection between the Krypteia and other proto-Assassin groups, particularly the Medjay:

- Myrinne calls them "the stalkers in the night", describing them as expert fighters that defend the kings of Sparta.

- Pausanias calls them "the hidden ones" (which is one translation of the word "krypteia").

- historical sources describe them as a sort of Spartan secret police that operated independently in the shadows.

The one big counterpoint and thematic conflict is the Krypteia's role in upholding a system of slavery by terrorizing and culling the helot population, which is attested both by the game and by some historical sources. This tells us they are certainly not proto-Assassins in any way that fits the creed, but the connections still seem deliberate, worthy of a Trivia entry at least.

Does anyone have information on whether the role of the Krypteia changed during development, or perhaps whether anything in the game files sheds more light on this? unsigned comment by Cash Craid (talk · contr) 20:51, 13 December 2023‎ (UTC)
